The Taj Mahal is considered to be one of the seven wonders of the medieval world.Mamtaz Mahal's real name was Arjumand Banu Begum. In 1612 she married Shah Jahan. Mumtaz Mahal died in childbirth on 7 June In 1632, Shah Jahan began construction of the Taj Mahal in memory of Mamtaz.

Although various historians have named different individuals as the architects of the Taj Mahal, it was probably designed by a group of architects from India, Persia, Central Asia, and other countries. Various Persian texts mention the artists and architects who participated in the construction of the Taj Mahal. Among them was Ismail Afandi of Turkey, Hanif of Agra, Chiranjilal and Baldev Das of Delhi, and Amanat Khan Shirazi of Persia. However, historians differ on these names.

The Architecture of the Taj Mahal

The architecture of the Taj Mahal is influenced by Hindu, Mughal, and Central Asian architecture. The foundation of the Taj Mahal is about seven meters high. This part is also made of marble. It has four huge pillars at the four corners. Each of its pillars or minarets is 41 meters high. The main monument has fine craftsmanship inside and out. The main Taj Mahal is located within a vast area. It covers an area of 580 m × 350 m.

A huge park, a mosque, and another monument called 'Jawab' The Taj Mahal are decorated with carved ornaments everywhere. Floral trees and shrubs, as Arabic and geometric designs, are the main themes of decoration. There are religious sayings carved on the white marble. Shah Jahan had designated a place for his tomb near Mamtaz's tomb when he built the Taj Mahal and after his death, he was buried there according to his wishes.

What was the budget for the Taj Mahal?

There is no estimate of how much money was spent on the construction of the Taj Mahal, but it is estimated that the cost will not be less than Rs 4 crore. At that time, seven mons of rice could be bought for one rupee. 20,000 workers worked tirelessly for 22 years (1632-1653) to complete the monument. The Taj Mahal is a prime example of how high Mughal architecture reached.

The Taj Mahal is surprisingly beautiful with a sense of sophistication, smooth planning, the use of white and white stone in the construction, and colorful and beautiful decorations. Even today, many tourists, both domestic and foreign, come to Agra.
